We use a variety of evidence-based programs and supplemental resources for intervention at ELA. Read more about our most trusted intervention programs and materials below.

UFLI FOUNDATIONS
We use UFLI Foundations as part of our structured literacy intervention because it aligns with the principles of the Orton-Gillingham approach — explicit, systematic, and diagnostic instruction grounded in the science of reading.
UFLI Foundations provides:
-
Explicit, step-by-step phonics instruction
-
A systematic and cumulative sequence of skills
-
Integrated practice in reading, spelling, and writing
-
Spiraling skills application through each lesson
-
Ongoing progress monitoring to guide individualized support
-
A system that works for those who are just a little behind through those with dyslexia.

Like Orton-Gillingham–based instruction, UFLI Foundations focuses on teaching students how the English language works, helping them build strong decoding, encoding, and fluency skills. Within our one-on-one intervention model, this structured approach allows us to close foundational gaps efficiently.
Hand2Mind
We incorporate Hand2Mind literacy resources into our intervention sessions to provide hands-on, multisensory learning experiences that support structured literacy instruction.

Hand2Mind materials align beautifully with Orton-Gillingham–informed practices by engaging students through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways. Students don’t just hear or see a concept — they build it, manipulate it, and experience it.
These resources supplement intervention by providing:
-
Concrete-to-abstract learning that strengthens foundational understanding
-
Hands-on tools for phonemic awareness, phonics, and word building
-
Visual models that clarify sound-symbol relationships
-
Structured practice that reinforces decoding and encoding skills

By physically manipulating sounds, syllables, and word parts, students develop deeper neural connections that improve retention and automaticity. This multisensory approach is especially powerful for students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences.
When combined with our structured, one-on-one instruction, Hand2Mind resources help make literacy concepts clear, engaging, and lasting.
We use Acadience® progress monitoring tools to ensure our intervention is targeted, measurable, and effective. Acadience assessments are research-based measures grounded in the science of reading and designed to track the foundational skills that drive literacy success.
Progress monitoring allows us to move beyond guesswork. We regularly assess key areas such as:
-
Phonemic awareness
-
Phonics and decoding
-
Fluency
-
Reading accuracy
-
Comprehension indicators

Why Progress Monitor?
-
Provides clear, objective data on student growth
-
Identifies skill gaps quickly and precisely
-
Helps us adjust intervention in real time
-
Tracks progress toward individualized goals
-
Gives us the ability to develop thorough progress reports for parents and teachers

Because our intervention is structured and systematic, it’s essential that we also measure progress systematically. Acadience allows us to ensure that each student is responding to instruction and making meaningful, documented gains.
